Calendar of events under the project on “Promotion of Counter-Measures Against Plastic Litter in South East Asia and India”
Period: February-March 2020
1. World Wetlands Day Celebration
Venue: Sagar Vihar, Sector-8, Vashi, Navi Mumbai
Date: 02 February 2020; 10 AM – 12.30 PM
Objective: The event will highlight the outcomes of the “Rethink Plastics” campaign while emphasizing the current scenario of plastic pollution with respect to marine plastic litter and its impacts on the ecosystem. It will encourage participants to extend their support by taking a pledge to minimize the use of single-use plastic and contribute towards the conservation of wetlands and marine ecosystems.
2. Awareness Event at Hardwar on “Hamara Sankalp- Plastic Mukt Ganga”
Venue: Har ki Pauri, Haridwar
Date: 11 February 2020; 2:30-6:00 pm
Objective: The event will help us spread the message to a very large crowd leveraging the advantages of the location and time as also leveraging the influence of religious leaders, members of the Ganga Sabha and partners like the local administration and Bieng Bhagirathi to make a consolidated push in reducing the dumping of plastic into the Holy Ganges.
3. Event on “Take a Pledge for Plastic Free Taj”
Venue: Taj Mahotsav, Agra
Date: 20 February 2020; 11:00 am-1:00pm
Objective: The Taj Mahotsav provides a large impactful platform for sensitizing thousands of visitors on the subject of easily replaceable single-use plastic products, the focus of the project’s outreach activities in Agra. The event shall include a ‘Plog for Taj’ clean-up activity near the Taj Mahal and Taj Mahotsav, ‘Take a Pledge’ activity run by youth participants and ambassadors, guides trained to create awareness amongst tourists about plastics, as well as staging a play by school students focusing on dangers of plastic pollution and its effect on Yamuna.
4. Awareness Event at Allahabad on “Hamara Sankalp- Plastic Mukt Ganga”
Venue: Sangam, Allahabad
Date: 25 February 2020; 2:30-6:00 pm
Objective: This event is being organised at Sangam post the Magh Mela. The aim is to spread the message to a large audience and drive them to action to help reduce the dumping of plastic into the river systems. We will be leveraging the influence of civil administration, Mela Authorities and local NGO’s to achieve our goals.
5. National Policy Workshop
Venue: New Delhi
Date: 12-13 March 2020
As part of the project’s on-going activities, a two-day is proposed to share findings and outcomes of the Counter-Measures project with policymakers, urban local bodies, research organizations, industry, plastic waste management practitioners, communities and other stakeholders. In addition, eminent speakers shall be invited to share their work and insights from this sector. The workshop shall also provide a timely opportunity to deliberate a National Road Map on Marine Plastic Litter.
