About: As a specialised agency of the United Nations, UNESCO’s mission is to contribute to the building of peace, the eradication of poverty, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue, through its work in education, the sciences, culture, communication and information. UNESCO’s strength is in cooperation and networking with governments, UN entities, development partners, civil society organisations, communities and professionals. UNESCO is the only UN entity to have a system of National Commissions in its Member and Associate States. UNESCO is the sole UN entity with a mandate to defend freedom of expression and press freedom.
